When Javier Lopez joined Simms & Associates a little over two years ago, the company looked very different from the one he knows today.
It was smaller and at an exciting stage of growth. For Javier, that sense of possibility was a big part of the attraction.
“I was not only joining a job, but I was joining something that was growing, and that’s really exciting.”
Since then, Javier has watched S&A grow rapidly. But despite that growth, his first impression of the company has stayed remarkably familiar.
Growing while staying connected
From the beginning, Javier remembers S&A as a place where people knew one another and working relationships felt personal.
“The first impression I got from the company is that it was a very close company, like everyone knew everyone, and that made it feel very personal.”
The company may be much bigger today, but Javier still recognizes those same values – particularly in the way people support one another.
“No matter how busy people are, no matter if you are working on different projects, there’s always someone available to jump in a call with you and help.”
For Javier, that willingness to help is not simply something the company talks about. It is something he has experienced throughout his time at S&A.
Taking on a new challenge
Javier’s own journey has evolved alongside the business. With a background in time and attendance consulting, one of his biggest professional challenges came when he was offered the opportunity to become an integration consultant.
“It was one of the biggest challenges I have had in my work life.”
Today, working across solution consulting and integrations has given him something valuable: a broader understanding of the product and a bigger picture of how everything fits together.
Learning beyond the technical
While Javier expected his time at S&A to develop his technical skills, some of the most important lessons have been personal.
From communication to taking on new challenges and navigating difficult situations with customers, Javier has seen his responsibilities – and his confidence in handling them – grow.
That constant opportunity to keep learning is also one of the reasons he has stayed.
“I was never feeling like I was standing still. I was always learning something new. I was being offered new challenges all the time.”
Looking ahead
As S&A celebrates ten years, Javier is excited by where the company can go next – particularly its openness to exploring workforce management technologies beyond its current core platforms.
For Javier, growth has brought plenty of change. But at the center of it, he can still recognize what was there when he first joined: the culture, the way people work together and, as he puts it simply, “the people.”
