When Martin Carvallo joined Simms & Associates, the company was still relatively small — around 25 people — but already full of ambition. What convinced him to take the leap wasn’t just the opportunity itself, but the conversations he had with Amanda and Michiel.
“The way they shared the project and its potential matched my definition of an exciting challenge,” he explains.
And for Martin, that was reason enough.
From the very beginning, one thing stood out above all: the diversity of the team. It was, as he describes, something that immediately struck him — and something that has only grown stronger over time.
“We’re more diverse than ever,” he says, highlighting what he sees as one of Simms’ most distinctive and valuable traits.
Continuous evolution, not a single moment
Unlike others, Martin doesn’t point to a single defining moment in his journey. Instead, he sees his experience at Simms as a constant process of evolution.
“There are new challenges every day,” he reflects.
For him, what truly makes a difference is not the challenges themselves, but how they are approached. A mindset of questioning, adapting and never taking things for granted has shaped both the company and his own way of working.
“It’s really the ongoing reinvention,” he explains — a philosophy that continues to drive growth.
That same mindset is reflected in how people work together. Martin describes “companionship” as a key word — a culture where people challenge each other to be their best, while remaining supportive and non-judgmental.
“It brings the best out of each of us,” he says.
This balance of high expectations and mutual support has been essential, not just for the company’s success, but for individual growth as well.
Growth, learning and looking ahead
Joining Simms also meant stepping into a completely new environment. Having previously worked on the vendor side, moving into a service company brought a different perspective — one that required greater collaboration and a stronger focus on the customer.
“It forces you to be much more of a team player,” Martin explains.
It was a shift that came with challenges, but also with a strong sense of satisfaction and personal development.
As the company has grown, so too has the complexity of its work — from the scale of projects to the way relationships with customers are built. New tools, processes and services have been introduced, creating an environment that continues to evolve.
“It still makes it a lot of fun today,” he says.
Despite all this growth, one thing has remained constant: the human side of the company.
“I’m impressed that we’re still maintaining that fundamental approach,” he reflects.
For Martin, staying at Simms has never really been a decision — it’s simply the result of being in an environment where learning, challenge and positive energy come together.
“You don’t consider any other perspective when you have all those elements,” he explains.
Looking ahead, his outlook combines both excitement and curiosity.
“There’s so much more that we can do,” he says.
It’s that sense of possibility — of what comes next — that continues to drive him forward.
To close the conversation, Martin highlights the next voice in the series: Jordan Stevens. He describes him as highly professional and reliable, with an easygoing personality that brings a positive energy to the team.
