When Hernan Mayorga joined Simms & Associates in 2024, the company had just over 30 employees. Based in Dubai and originally from Argentina, Hernan brought years of workforce management experience and a curiosity about working with teams across different regions.
Finding something different
Having previously worked with a UKG partner in the GCC region, Hernan was keen to experience a different way of working. What stood out immediately was how approachable everyone was, regardless of their role or seniority.
He describes it as a “digital open-door policy”, where colleagues and leaders remain accessible even as the organisation grows.
For Hernan, that openness has made collaboration easier and created opportunities to learn from people across the business.
Growing through challenges
One experience that stands out was a complex, multi-location migration from Workforce Central to UKG Pro WFM.
The project involved both new implementations and migrations, requiring extensive planning, creative problem-solving and constant adaptation.
Rather than focusing on what had gone wrong when challenges arose, the team concentrated on finding solutions. The project was ultimately delivered on time and within budget.
It reinforced something Hernan values about Simms & Associates: the team’s ability to approach challenges constructively, share ideas and work together towards a solution
Every day is a school day
Hernan joined as a Solution Consultant, primarily focused on timekeeping, accruals and scheduling. Today, his responsibilities extend into advising customers on best practices, governance and broader solution design, including solution architecture work.
While he still enjoys the technical side of configuration, his role now involves looking at the bigger picture.
That evolution reflects one of his favourite sayings at Simms & Associates:
“Every day is a school day.”
For Hernan, learning goes both ways. Colleagues share knowledge, challenge ideas constructively and recognise that nobody has all the answers.
Looking ahead
As Simms & Associates celebrates its tenth birthday, Hernan is excited about the company’s continued growth and maturity.
He sees improvements in processes, standardisation and project delivery as opportunities to build on lessons learned.
But what matters most to him is preserving the collaborative culture that made such an impression when he joined.
For Hernan, the future is about more than expanding the business. It’s about continuing to learn, adapting together and making sure teamwork remains at the heart of everything Simms & Associates does.
