Dimphy Van Heusden’s connection with Simms & Associates began long before she officially became an employee. As the owner of a marketing agency that worked with Simms & Associates and UKG, she had been part of the company’s story almost from the beginning.
When she officially joined three and a half years ago, Simms & Associates had around 25 employees. But after years of working alongside the business, becoming part of the team didn’t feel like starting somewhere new.
Her first connection with Amanda Simms came years earlier at a UKG event in Amsterdam, where they quickly found common ground in their views on branding, leadership and the importance of culture.
“I was immediately impressed by her vision on leadership and the way culture plays such a big part in how you build a company.”
A moment that changed everything
Shortly before joining Simms & Associates, Dimphy experienced a tough period in her career. After almost ten years of building her own company, she lost the business and had to let go of her team.
When she reached out to Amanda, the response was immediate.
“She didn’t hesitate for one second. She offered me this job and put all that trust in me. I don’t know if Amanda knows how much that meant to me.”
For Dimphy, that moment remains one of the most significant ways Simms & Associates has impacted her, both personally and professionally.
A culture that genuinely cares
Having experienced many different organizations through her agency, Dimphy believes there is something distinctive about the way people work together at Simms & Associates.
“We truly care about each other. We help, we coach, we teach, we guide.”
When challenges arise, the response isn’t that’s not my job, but how can I help?
As the company has grown and become more global, that sense of care has remained constant.
“People still genuinely care about each other, our customers and the solutions we deliver, and that’s the heart of Simms & Associates.”
Learning to lead differently
Working at Simms & Associates has also influenced Dimphy’s own approach to leadership.
Earlier in her career, managers often encouraged her to slow down and remember the importance of bringing her team along. At Simms & Associates, she says she has finally learned to do exactly that: listen properly, respond rather than react and sometimes put her own ego aside for the greater good.
It’s a change she attributes to a combination of experience and the leadership culture around her.
Embracing what comes next
Dimphy’s own field has transformed too. AI and new technology are changing marketing rapidly, reducing manual work and allowing a relatively small team to achieve far more while creating space for strategy, positioning and growth.
For Dimphy, that constant change is something to embrace.
But what keeps her at Simms & Associates is much simpler: Amanda, the culture she has built and the feeling that there is much more to come.
“This is the company that I want to grow old with – but preferably not too quickly ;-).”
As Simms & Associates celebrates its tenth birthday, Dimphy is looking forward to continuing to build on what has already made the company successful: its people, its expertise and a culture that has remained at its heart throughout its growth.
